What is Biffa’s Commitment to Biodiversity?
We recognise that there is a major opportunity to contribute to the UK biodiversity agenda by managing our sites to conserve and enhance biodiversity. We currently operate over 150 sites and each of these locations has the potential to make a contribution to maintaining, and hopefully enhancing, the UK's biodiversity capital.
Where we own or manage land, we will determine its biodiversity significance by undertaking ecological surveys.
We are making a commitment to conserve any important habitats and species and over time, will develop appropriate management regimes to maintain and where possible enhance the biodiversity of the whole site.
We aim to work with appropriate conservation bodies, local communities and appropriate experts to maximize biodiversity rich land at specified sites. We will seek to make land accessible to the public, where this does not conflict with these wider aims and will seek out opportunities to create local nature reserves and publicly accessible green space, joining together with others where practical.
We publish our initiatives to our staff and the public through in-house publications, the intranet and our Company website, and we aim to raise awareness of the issues and seek to capitalise on local interest and expertise.
