European Waste Catalogue Codes v1.09 - Download interactive PDF document (1.63 Mb).

The European Waste Catalogue is subject to periodic review by the EU. Occasionally, they will make changes to the text of entries or alter their hazardous / non-hazardous classification.

The entries that have been altered since the publication of Biffa’s EWC booklet (issue 1) and Biffa’s online EWC tool (v.1.0) are detailed in the following Addendum, which is also available for download as a pdf document.

The European Waste Classification (EWC) system came into effect on the 30 August 2002. The EWC requires waste to be described using one of the new EWC codes, which has replaced our existing DOE codes. We have published a guide to these codes which is available by clicking on the link above.

The European Waste Catalogue has been put into English and Welsh legislation by the use of the List of Waste regulations (LOW). The List of Waste (LOW) currently contains an identical list of codes and descriptions to that contained in the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) and so can be used interchangeably. Legislation in Scotland still refers to the European Waste Catalogue.
