New Recycling Service Launched For Local SMEs

Licensed retailers in Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire are set to benefit from a new recycling service for glass bottles.
The service is being provided by Biffa - the UK's leading supplier of waste management services - and is supported by WRAP's (Waste & Resources Action Programme) SME Recycling Programme. It aims to make glass recycling easier for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire through the provision of a convenient and cost effective local service.
Peter Clayson, Recycling Manager, Biffa, says: 'The aim of the service is for businesses in Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire to see how simple and cost effective it is to recycle and reduce the amount of glass waste being sent to landfill'.
'SMEs cover a vast range of businesses, which all have different requirements from a recycling collection service - either because of the materials to be collected for recycling or the way the recyclables are collected'.
'We believe the service will make a real difference to local companies who tell us they want to recycle more.'
Companies are being provided with wheelie bins so they can dispose of their mixed glass. Collections will be made on a weekly basis to maximise the amount of recyclable materials collected.
Liz Morrish, WRAP's SME Recycling Programme Manager, said: 'Recycling at work is easy to do and this new service will make it even easier for businesses. It's also a cost-effective way for SMEs to deal with their waste, often being cheaper than general waste disposal'.
'Recycling helps to reduce clutter and improves the working environment. Recycling at work also has the feel good factor. Our research shows that employee moral was boosted by recycling, with 82 per cent of businesses saying that their staff needed no encouragement to recycle at work and over a third of businesses stating that recycling had improved their reputation in the local community.'
